Blue Rodeo
+ The Whybirds
Friday 1 October
The Harpur Suite BCEX

Since the release of their debut album, Outskirts, in March 1987, Blue Rodeo has established themselves as one of the premiere bands in Canadian music history. Their sound is a basic blend of country, folk, and rock, but with a definite pop appeal that underlined their devotion to later-period Beatles, in addition to expected touchstones like Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan, and the Band.
Their twelfth studio album, The Things We Left Behind, was released in November of 2009 on Warner Music in Canada and TeleSoul Records in the US. Over the course of their stellar career Blue Rodeo has released 12 studio albums, two live albums, a greatest hits collection and an award-winning DVD, selling in excess of four million copies around the world.
The Whybirds are a four piece rock 'n' roll/alt.country band from Bedford, England.
All four members (Dave Banks, Ben Haswell, Taff Thatcher and Luke Tuchscherer) are singer/songwriters – giving the group a diverse range of songs and vocal styles – but without straying from The Whybirds' sanguine brand of rock 'n' roll.
Classic Rock journalist Derek Oliver said: "If you are at all interested in alt.country rock then you’ll love The Whybirds. They have it all; songs, musicianship and a sense of maturity that most acts of this kind can’t even comprehend. I’ve lost count of the amount of times that Q, Uncut or Word magazine has banged on about alt-country artists to hear music that sounds like its been recorded in a bathroom by clueless embryonic singer/songwriters.
"These guys are the real deal – think Flying Burrito Brothers, Tom Petty and The Band. Better looking than the early Eagles and every inch as determined, you’ll be hearing more of these guys some time soon."
